My DIY Headboard

Two posts in one week?? Whaaaaaat? This will probably never happen again.

Sean and I finally bought a KING sized bed.  I'd say it's in our top 5 best purchases since being married.  Before we bought it, we were sleeping on the queen sized bed that my parents bought when they got married. We were so lucky that they let us borrow it for the last two years but MAN are we glad to have a bed that doesn't slope towards the middle and bounce the other person to the ceiling every time one of us rolls over.  I'm especially grateful since Sean is the WORST sleeper and generally sleeps completely sprawled out diagonally. I end up huddled in a corner shivering until I can't take it anymore and try to roll/kick/shove him over. You laugh, but it's true. Anyway. Best. Purchase. Ever. It's huge.

One thing I didn't realize until buying our mattress is that everything pretty much doubles in price when you go from a Queen to a King. Stupid. So after buying our new linens and comforter set I was pretty much out of spending money for a headboard. So, like half of the things we own, I made one.. with the help of my little brother's woodshop skills. The total came out to be about about $70 because I opted to go with a more expensive material that I really liked instead of settling on a cheaper one.  Had I gone with the other one I was looking at, it probably would have been about $50-$55.   Either way, $70 is way cheaper than any of the ones I was looking at.

Here's how I made it..

First I cut out the shape and drilled holes where I wanted my buttons to go.

Foam is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. So I got an egg crate bed topper on sale instead.  I was worried it wouldn't be thick enough  for the tufting but I got a heavier batting which made up for it. I just used hot glue to hold it in place before I added the batting

I wrapped the batting around the whole thing and stapled it to the back.  I then did the same thing with the fabric.  

Next I added my buttons

VOILA! (The texture of the fabric is my favorite part)

I love how it turned out! Now I just need to choose my wall color so I can paint and finish adding decorations. The master retreat is nearing completion :)

February is for Love

I sure do love this baby girl of ours.

I love that she covers her face with my hair when I'm cradling her to sleep.  

I love it when she gets so excited she scrunches up her face then squints her eyes and shivers.

I love that her favorite noise to make is "momomomomomomom" even though she doesn't know what she's saying.

I love that she follows me around like a puppy dog.

I love the pacifier mark on my cheek because she has to press her face into mine when she's falling asleep on my shoulder.

I love that she and Lily are best friends.

I love that one of her favorite games is to give open-mouthed "kisses" and expects praise after every one.

I love that she is such a mama's girl, even though it makes things difficult at times.

I love the huge smile she gives Daddy when he comes home for lunch.

I love that she plays with my hair when we're walking around doing chores.

I love that when something upsets her she continues to softly whimper, even after you pick her up, as if she's feeling sorry for herself. 

I love that her hair color is an exact match to mine.

I love that bedtime stories with Daddy is one of the only times she sits still.
And I love that she's all ours.
